This soothing syrup is for acute or chronic cough with profuse phlegm including bronchitis, smoker's cough, asthma, pertussis and emphysema. Also for wind heat or accumulation of heat in the lung, with signs of thirst or dry mouth. Also helpful to soothe sore throat and to benefit hoarse throat.

Loquat and fritillaria products are good cough syrups for hacking coughs with phlegm expectoration. They can be used for heat presentations with dry sore throat and hoarse voice, and can also be used for chronic cough due to phlegm damp. The formula is neutral in temperature, or only slightly cooling.
Directions:
Adults: 10 cc (1 tablespoon), 3 times a day. Can be diluted in water or tea, etc.
Children: 1/2 dose, 3 times a day.

Its chief ingredients are Fritillaria (bei mu) and loquat leaf (pi pa ye). Loquat leaf is especially useful for a heat-type cough, which is a cough with sticky phlegm that is difficult to expectorate. Loquat leaf comes from the same tree that produces the small delicious loquat fruits (Eriobotrya japonica). Fritillaria, the other chief ingredient, is an expectorant that is moistening to the lungs, an important action when a cough is nonproductive.
